Hi friends. I’ve been quiet for the last few weeks as we have been enjoying a wonderful time with friends and family in Tempe, Arizona; Charleston, South Carolina; and Winston Salem, North, Carolina.
And on Saturday, we takeoff on a transatlantic repositioning cruise from Tampa, Florida to Rome, Italy. We will use Rome as a jumping off point to explore Eastern Europe, starting in Montenegro and ending in Vienna in late June. We hope to make it to Croatia, Poland, and more countries along the way. This is the first time that we are not planning out everywhere we hope to go on a specific timeline. So let me know if you might be in the same neighborhood and there is a good chance we might meet up!
Unfortunately, somewhere in between enjoying our vacation and preparing for our next round of travels, my new iPhone crashed and had to be rebuilt. As a result, I lost access to the Substack authentication app. This means, I am locked out of Substack on my iPhone and computer. Thankfully, I still have access on my iPad!
We’ve learned so many lessons about how vulnerable we are when technology lets us down in our travels. I was incredibly lucky that my phone crashed when I was in the US near an Apple store that could work on my phone without me trying to navigate translating my tech problems into another language.
But now I am stuck in a chat bot hell loop trying to recover my Substack account and I have no idea if that will ultimately be successful. So, I will be taking a break from writing for a while and will turn off any new paid subscriptions until I can get everything back in working order. I still have lots of things I would love to share about our travels – like our recent experience in Tempe in a Waymo self driving car…
See you soon (hopefully)!
Gosh! So sorry to hear about your iPhone troubles. Hope you get all worked out soon.
My iPhone was stolen and I was a wreck for the mere one or two days I was inconvenienced. It was still a miracle I could get a new phone in Madrid, download everything, and get linked up to our US carrier. Looking back on that traumatic experience, it was easy to get back to normal. Alas, doesn’t sound the same for you.
Looking forward to your next post and a travel update. 😘😘
