Excellent article and it covers all the basis. I have a VPN and I do use it but sparingly.

Boy, that sounds complicated! Thanks for all this research and info in understandable terms.

I've never used a VPN as I don't think I've had a serious need to. My only issues come up when I'm trying to download documents from a U.S. institution and I'm denied access based on my geography being in Spain. I guess a VPN might help me get around that but not so much that I want to mess around. This helpful article assured my of that.

I really don’t think you need one at home. But a VPN could be helpful for you for the exact reason you state.

Yes, just after I wrote this, I was stymied by another website in which I couldn't get the info I was looking for. RATS!

Will read this later, we've always used one, well, for a long time--thanks. Wow-- just read it all, you guys. You have gone through quite the ringer. So, where are you with it now? Using a VPN-but being wary of the countries that disallow it, etc?

I too picked up a VPN (CyberGhost) due to the world of hacking. It was presented as a security measure by an IT company where a friend works. It's relatively cheap and sounded simple. But when I went to the UK, I found I didn't need the service at all. Although, I am not a world traveler by any means.

But your article educated me on things I had no idea about, and will have to consider when I do get traveling. Thank you!
